The Fairmont High School Robotics Team (Team 2847 - The MegaHertz) competed at the FIRST World Championships in Houston, Texas, April 19th-22nd at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
The competition consisted of over 600 teams from all over the world competing in eight divisions. The MegaHertz were randomly assigned to the Archimedes Division which was considered to be the strongest division at the event. This division contained four of the top eight highest scoring teams in the world, several more teams rated in the top 20, and last year's world champions.
During two days of qualification matches, the MegaHertz amassed a 6-3-1 record and were able to play with and against some of the world’s best robotics teams in the process. They finished the tournament ranked 31st in their 77-team division. The team greatly improved on their previous performances which led them to outperform their predicted ranking of 47th.
While the team scored much higher than predicted, they also experienced unexpected mechanical and electrical problems in several matches. These issues likely led to the MegaHertz getting passed over during the alliance selection process and resulted in the team not being selected to play in the division finals.
The world championship was an incredible opportunity for Team 2847, and the team would like to extend its gratitude to American Legion Post 36 and the Profinium Dreams Foundation as well as all our other sponsors and our community for their support! Below is a list of all who supported our first ever Worlds run.
